The story of NORC began with a deep personal journey and an unwavering desire to give back. In 2009, Dr. Mubiru Nelson faced a challenging moment in his life—struggling to afford school fees, he found himself on the streets of Kampala, working as a taxi conductor to survive. His life changed forever when Fields of Life, an organization dedicated to transforming communities through education and development, stepped in to support him. Sponsored by Maurice and Ruth Haggai, Dr. Nelson returned back to school and went on to complete a diploma in Orthopaedics Technology (Prosthetics and Orthotics). This was the ultimate turnaround of his life.
Inspired by the impact that Fields of Life had on his life, Dr. Nelson felt a profound calling to help others facing similar challenges. In 2020, he founded Nkolo Orthopaedics Rehabilitation Center in Kasana, Luweero district, with a mission to provide affordable and high-quality rehabilitation services to persons living with disabilities. What began as a small clinic with a big vision has grown into a trusted facility that is serving humanity and changing lives of people across Uganda and beyond.
Today, NORC stands as a beacon of hope for individuals and families who seek life-changing rehabilitation services. From our humble beginnings, we have expanded our services to include orthopaedics workshop (prosthetics and orthotics), orthopedics, therapy (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy), community based rehabilitation, and empowerment-of-pwds.
Over the years, we have partnered with varied organizations chiefest of them being SwissABILITY, a like-minded organization based in Switzerland. Our partnership with SwissABILITY has enabled us to reach even more people in need. Together, we deliver outstanding orthopaedic and rehabilitation services at subsidized prices, ensuring that no one is left behind due to financial constraints. Our facility is more than just a place for treatment; it is a community where patients and their families find support, encouragement, and a path to a better life.
